Downtown Menomonee Falls Builds Its Holiday Season One Saturday at a Time

Downtown Menomonee Falls spreads Christmas across four Saturdays in 2026. It starts with a 6 p.m. tree lighting on Nov. 28 and peaks at the fifth annual Falls Christkindl Market on Dec. 12. Each Saturday does something different. A tree lighting gathers everyone in one plaza, a cookie weekend spreads them across the shops, and the market uses the park, the plaza and Main Street all on the same day.

Two of the season's best parts are paid for ahead of time. The Cookie Crawl runs on boxes bought online. The Christkindl Glühwein mug is a preorder, and the free pour comes with it. If you plan in November, the December Saturdays are a lot easier.

The calendar, in order

Menomonee Falls Downtown runs the season under the Christmas in the Falls banner. Here is the 2026 schedule:

  1. Saturday, Nov. 28: Small Business Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., ending with carols and the tree lighting at 6 p.m.
  2. Friday, Dec. 4, and Saturday, Dec. 5: Downtown Cookie Crawl, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
  3. Saturday, Dec. 12: Falls Christkindl Market, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  4. Saturday, Dec. 19: The last Elfie Scavenger Hunt date, after the Dec. 5 and Dec. 12 hunts.

The district's 2026 events calendar puts the season right after a fall that ran from the Scarecrow Contest through Falls Harvest Fest on Oct. 3 and Downtown Trick or Treat on Oct. 22. Once Halloween is over, nothing is scheduled downtown until Thanksgiving weekend.

November 28 starts the season in the plaza built for events

The Village of Menomonee Falls calendar lists Small Business Saturday as the "traditional Downtown District event" that starts the holiday season. Santa is at the American Legion Post, wagon rides loop the historic district, and food and entertainment run all day in Centennial Plaza. Carols and the tree lighting at 6 p.m. close the day.

The Village's own listing calls the plaza "newly renovated," and the renovation was designed with events like this in mind. The Express News reported in May 2024 that the Village Board had approved the renovation contract at its May 20 meeting. The low base bid was $392,545.31. The plan called for two custom shade structures, curved block seating, a raised performance platform, a landscaped area, redesigned lighting and electrical upgrades, with concrete pavement replacing the old brick pavers. The Village's 2024 capital budget also lists a vendor area, removable perimeter bollards and public-art installations. It budgets the project at $515,000, paid with Tourism money and a $50,000 WEDC grant.

That design matters for the holidays. A raised platform for carolers, a set-aside vendor area and bollards that come out for crowds are what an evening tree lighting needs. Centennial Plaza sits at Appleton Avenue and Main Street. That puts it at the center of the shop blocks the next three Saturdays use.

December 4 and 5: the cookie box comes before the weekend

The Cookie Crawl is the one event this season you pay for before you show up. A box costs $25 and is bought online through the Cookie Crawl page. On Friday, Dec. 4, or Saturday, Dec. 5, you pick up the box at the Downtown District office at N88 W16606 Main Street. Then you walk the participating businesses and collect a Christmas cookie at each one, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

So far the page lists two participating businesses, Chocolate Falls and MochiUnni, and says more will be added in the coming weeks. If you want to plan a route, check back closer to December, when the list is filled in.

Holding the crawl on a Friday and Saturday changes how the weekend goes. It gives you a weekday afternoon option before Saturday traffic. It also sends you into the shops a week before the market fills Mill Pond Park. The organizers say as much and point crawlers to the stocking-stuffer stores on the way.

Elfie runs alongside the whole stretch

The Elfie Scavenger Hunt connects the weekends. The Christmas in the Falls Elfie page sets it for Dec. 5, 12 and 19, from 10 a.m. to noon. Children find Elfie at downtown businesses and get a photo and a candy cane.

The Village calendar describes a longer version called "Where's Elfie?" that runs Dec. 1 through Dec. 20 in downtown shops. Kids look for hidden elf names, fill in a playing card and enter a make-and-take prize drawing for ages 5 to 12. The listing also asks for food-pantry donations. The two listings differ on dates and hours, so check with Menomonee Falls Downtown before you build a morning around the 10 a.m. to noon window.

Either way, the Elfie dates line up with the rest of the season. Dec. 5 is the Saturday of the Cookie Crawl, Dec. 12 is market day, and Dec. 19 is the last Saturday before Christmas. A family can fit the hunt into the other two Saturdays without a separate trip.

December 12 is what the other Saturdays build toward

The Falls Christkindl Market runs Saturday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It covers three areas: Mill Pond Park, Centennial Plaza, and the district's shops and eateries. Organizers call this the 5th annual market and describe it as European-inspired. The Village's listing for the same day gives 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and centers it on Centennial Plaza. The organizers' 10-to-4 window is the safer one to plan around.

When TMJ4 covered the fourth annual market in December 2025, it ran 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 13. The 2026 date and hours follow the same pattern, one week later on the calendar.

Mill Pond Park holds the vendors

The holiday vendor market is set up in Mill Pond Park. The 2026 vendor list currently names 32 vendors. A few of them, by category:

  • Food and sweets: Tabal Chocolate, Ben's Pretzels, Berry Good Donuts, A Sprinkle of Sugar, Familie Online Bakery, Porifiro's Bistro
  • Coffee and drinks: Der Hoffskeller Coffee, Third Space Brew House
  • Wood, metal and clay: 509 Woodturning, Copperhead Metallurgy, PL Wood Design, The Playful Clay, Wobble Pots, MJR Boards
  • Art and gifts: James Steeno Gallery, Leda Miller - Artist, Mike's Antler Art, Global Artisan Collective, Alpaca Tundra Store
  • Garden and outdoors: Lake Country Growers, Suet and Seed by Cathy

The list may still change before Dec. 12.

The corner of Main and Appleton belongs to the kids

The Kinder Korner sits at Main and Appleton, the same corner as Centennial Plaza. It has live reindeer, a gingerbread house and candy cane arches. Santa's Workshop offers professional portraits. Elsa and Anna appear at Karate America for songs and photos. The Christkindl Beer Garden is run by Menomonee Falls Downtown and Third Space Innovation Brewhouse.

The mug is a November errand

The 2026 commemorative Glühwein mug is sold by preorder, and each preorder includes one free pour of Glühwein at the Mill Pond Park Pavilion on Dec. 12. You can pick up the mug ahead of time at Robin's Nest, N89 W16389 Main Street, during regular store hours. You can also bring your receipt to the event and pick it up there.

Picking up early pays off. A mug already in hand on Dec. 12 means one less line at the pavilion on the busiest Saturday of the season. If you put both purchases on your Thanksgiving-week list, the December Saturdays are just showing up and walking. Order the cookie box online and the mug through the market page, and grab the mug at Robin's Nest while you're downtown for the Nov. 28 tree lighting.

Tomorrow night, before any of it starts

The day after this post goes up is the last night of the Friends of Old Falls Village Park's third Little Park of Horrors Halloween Spooky Walk. It runs Friday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. at N96W15791 County Line Road, with the Old Falls Biergarten open alongside. Tickets for the walk are $10 for ages 7 and older and are sold in the Public House. Parking is free. The Old Falls Village calendar has the details. Downtown has nothing else scheduled until Nov. 28.
